"Because every life matters" I believe that it is not up to us to predict the future between life and euthanasia for feral cats who share the same God as we do; it is up to us to respect them and provide a more humane and ethical society that is compassion and nurturing. |

In certain parts of the world feral cats are hunted and poisoned by government regulations while in other areas people are fined and yes even fingerprinted and imprisoned for feeding feral cats. Feral cats avoid human contact but they are by no means the fierce felines that some Hollywood films have depicted them to be. They live the lives they were given, with little to no contact with humans. Socialization at a young age is best, usually between 8 to 12 weeks of age yet I have Many people place the blame on these cats yet fail to realize that at one time some of these cats belonged to someone who decided that "the cat's boring", "mom I don't like the cat anymore", or "this cat is pregnant, we don't want kittens in this house", "I'm moving and they don't allow cats where I'm moving to" and so the cat smarter then credit is given, knows something is going on as he/she is placed into a carrier and driven behind some building, a parking lot or along some highway and released and abandoned. These cats given enough time to fend for themselves alone with no human contact will return to their natural state. To observe the feral soul from afar is one of the most amazing sight we can ever witness. The bond formed between cats of the same colony is forever; theirs is not a disposable society. We are priviledged to witness such beauty. Even if from afar, these cats teach us much of what society has forgotten; humanity, humility, humbleness, and pride. They are not the stray cat many confuse him with. She is not the homeless vagabond many see her as; she is home. Feral kittens are taught young to avoid human contact. If trapped early (usually 8 to 12 weeks old), the kittens stand a chance of socialization and adoption. It is not impossible to socialize an older feral cat although much patience and time is required. They are often blamed for the depletion of songbirds yet one fact remains that is always overlooked; the destruction of natural habitat by man far outweighs the impact feral cats have on bird decline (from years of being a caregiver, cats tend to be more low level(ground)hunters). |
