"Why are we as a people so arrogant to think that we have evolved beyond a barbaric nature when one only needs to open his/her eyes to the world about us. Famine, war, poverty, animal cruelty is but a stone's throw away from our backyard. How civilized have we become as a people? One step forward yet centuries back."

Sinclair Street Feral Cat Colony

Through the years I've seen good people go out of there way to ensure feral cats had enough to eat, shelter to keep warm, and fell in love with cats that a quick glimpse offered them reason enough to play a pro-active role. Thanks to these folks, I haven't given up on humanity.

For reasons of anonymity, the caregiver's name has been withheld. On a West Kildonan street in Winnipeg, along a street with nice homes, nice yards and a seemingly decent neighborhood, neighborhood bullies have stepped forward and shone light upon society's lack of humanity and its material hold.

I received a call by someone concerning a feral cat colony who's caregiver was ill ad hospitalized who could no longer care for them and agreed to have them relocated to my colony. All to date but one cat have been trapped, TNRed and relocated. Of 12, 11 are now residents of Loving the Feral Soul Inc.

Next door to this caregiver, a woman also helped caring for the cats. To each she gave a face and name too but it wasn't without opposition. A neighbor across the street threatened her not only with verbal but also to the point of physical violence threat. Another neighbor who remained anonymous sent a typed letter in a blank envelope calling herself an animal lover but demanded that she stop caring for these cats who has she claimed "carry disease" and "ruin the neighborhood's plastic look". Someone else called Winnipeg's Animal Control who told her to "stop" feeding the cats and they would move on elsewhere and back in October, this caregiver witnessed the callous and cruel nature of man has one of the feral cats was crossing the street ad a white van sped up, bee lined his way towards the cat, hit her full force and sped off pruning a red light.

I've witnessed such cruelty towards feral cats and homeless animals by man. I was not surprised nor shocked about this. What if these people one day lost all their precious material possessions and knocked on someone's door for a warm meal or a place to rest? And what if they were turned away? Through it all I can only hope that they never need to suffer these misfortunes and are not done unto them as they have done unto these feral cats.

These cats are safe now. One left to trap and hopefully soon that she too can be free to live her life alongside other feral cats in the country.

Ignorance surpasses humanity. Greed feeds this disposable society and I can only hope that someday these people will finally realize and understand that "we" are the cause of animal over-population; I can only wonder if someday truth will overcome materialism.
